3rd CIPSEC workshop

The recent advancements of ICT have given the opportunity to companies, public administrations and various Critical Infrastructures to offer new and innovative services and at the same time lower their operational costs. These advancements however, were quickly adopted without proper evaluation of their impact on security, leaving current IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operation Technology) systems vulnerable to various kinds of cyberattacks. The International workshop on Information & Operational Technology (IT & OT) security systems aims to bring together viewpoints from diverse areas to explore the commonalities of security problems and solutions for advancing the collective science and practice of IT and OT security protection.

The 3rd CIPSEC workshop, International workshop on Information & Operational Technology (IT & OT) security systems (IOSec 18), was organized as a full day Workshop collocated with the 21st International Symposium on Research in Attacks, Intrusions and Defenses (RAID 2018), on September 13, 2018, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The program included topics such as security telemetry, identity management, cloud protection, critical infrastructures, etc. The IOSec technical program included an invited talk by Dr Petros Efstathopoulos from Symantec Research Labs (SRL), and 12 per-reviewed papers.

The workshop had 22 paper submissions and after a process of revision 12 papers were accepted. From these 12 papers, 5 of them presented research work related to CIPSEC, such as the work presented by the partners Bitdefender, FORTH, TUD and AEGIS.

Eleven out of the presented papers have been accepted as long papers and one as position paper of only 4 pages. The technical program committee is currently selecting some of these long papers for post conference SPRINGER proceedings (Springer has accepted to publish IOSEC'18 papers in an LNCS volume).

The attendants of the event were around 40 people, many of them also attending the RAID conference, since to increase the audience of the event, participants were not required to pay a registration fee. On the other hand, CIPSEC was also present in the RAID 2018 conference through an appropriate poster in the RAID main hall.
